The world knew of Boko Haram, an extremist Islamist group that seeks to establish an Islamic state in Nigeria and expel western influences, but in wake of the kidnapping the Internet brought them sudden explosive recognition.
The Nigerian government’s failure to respond expeditiously spurred a grassroots social media campaign under the hashtag “Bring Back Our Girls,” which generated public outcry demanding that the insurgency surrender the girls.
Mansfield Senior Center to coordinate long-term outreach plan to support underserved seniors

MANSFIELD – In a small town where nearly 6,500 people are 55 years old and above, only 128 are members of the Mansfield Senior Association, a statistic that spurred the Senior Center to develop a new outreach program.

Myanmar and Bangladesh Sign Rohingya Repatriation Deal

Amnesty International describes the violence that has heightened in Myanmar over the past five years against the Muslim ethnic minority called the Rohingya as “dehumanizing apartheid,” which the United Nations has referred to it as a “textbook example of ethnic cleansing.”
Due to global pressures, Myanmar is signing a deal with Bangladesh, the country that has been absorbing the Rohingya refugees, though some question the true impact of the agreement.

According to the Ocean Conservancy, over eight million metric tons of plastics enter the world’s oceans annually in addition to the 150 metric tons that are currently already floating around.
Following the town of Mansfield’s Zero Waste Resolution, two years ago the Solid Waste Advisory Committee began exploring the idea of a plastic bag ban.

President Trump has presented a series of points regarding changes in approaches to the war in Afghanistan over the course of the election last year and through his administration thus far, promising new plans to subvert the decisions of the Obama administration.
Now in office he has been forced to reconcile with his unachievable proposals to pull out of Afghanistan and has to accept that he too will be dealing with the conflict there for a while.
